Job Purpose and Scope:
 
The Senior Accountant – Accounting Operations will be responsible for general accounting duties for the Farm Credit Bank of Texas, including review and approval of accounts payable, all fixed assets activity, and the analysis of the Bank’s operating expenses on a monthly basis.
 
Essential Functions:
 
  • Review and approval of accounts payable, including review of invoices from outside vendors, expense reports, and board of director expenses.  Additional responsibilities include new vendor setup and existing vendor maintenance in the accounts payable system.
 
  • Responsible for the fixed assets activity of the Bank, including entry of purchases to the asset management system, validating general ledger entries, reconciling fixed assets to the general ledger monthly, and preparing quarterly and annual fixed assets reports.
 
  • Responsible for the review of the Bank’s operating expenses as part of the monthly close process.  Also responsible for the monthly Bank’s budget variance analysis for operating expenses, including distribution of select information to Bank management.
 
  • Plays a vital role in the annual and ongoing analysis and update of SOX controls for the Accounting Operations group.
 
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
 
Position requires a degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting or related field plus five (5) or more years work experience in accounting. A CPA certification is preferred but not required. Experience with and knowledge of SOX controls is preferred.
 
Candidate must possess interpersonal relationship skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.  Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills are essential.  Must be able to accomplish accurate, detailed tasks in short timeframes.  Overall knowledge of accounting as it relates to corporate reporting and the general ledger is required.  Must know generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and be able to apply them to the Bank’s accounting issues.  Must be able to work unsupervised and organize assigned workload to accomplish all tasks in the time required.  Must have knowledge and experience with computers, use of Microsoft Excel and Word, and knowledge of other reporting tools.
